Did you know that certain types of PDF maps can show your exact position on a trail? These are called geo-referenced PDFs. When the map is opened using an app on your smartphone, a dot/reference point displays on the device's screen at your exact location. These maps use your GPS, not your cell signal, so they work even when you do not have cell service. As you move along the trail, the dot will move with you. The map will guide your way for as long as your device's battery works.
Here is how to access our geo-referenced map:
Download the FREE Avenza Maps app from your device's App Store. The free version of Avenza allows you to download 3 geo-referenced maps at one time.
Options for opening the Geo-Referenced PDF maps in Avenza are:
Open the map directly from the map link on your mobile device.
Once the map is selected, you can choose to open directly in Avenza Maps
Alternatively, you can choose Import Map in Avenza and navigate to the file.
Send the map in an email and download the PDF on your device.
Once downloaded, choose the option to open in Avenza Maps.
