We are VERY EXCITED to announce that TODAY we are opening up more trail opportunities in the Backcountry!

We have added on to Papertown Express once again, extending another 1.31 miles! The newly-added section travels up almost to the summit of Chestnut Mountain where SPECTACULAR views abound! Both hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy the beauty of this section of trail. It provides two-way access for hikers as well as single-direction climbing access for mountain bikers.

This new upper section of the Papertown provides mountain bikers access to a 1.8-mile purpose-built, single-direction descending trail. Find out more about this other new trail in our Ladybird post!

This trail was designed and built by Elevated Trail Design, LLC and was funded by a grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) awarded to the Town of Canton by North Carolina State Parks and Recreation. We THANK YOU!!!

Ladybird is our new fast single-track descending-only trail filled with berms and opportunities to pump and jump your way down Chestnut Mountain. While rated as an intermediate trail, there are all types of hidden "easter eggs" that advanced mountain bikers will be rewarded with. Ladybird takes riders in and out of the deep contours of Chestnut Mountain and ends at the entrance to Berm Park.

This trail is a living memorial to trail builder, AJ Brown's beloved trail dog, Ladybird. For over six years, Ladybird served as chief trail construction supervisor with Elevated Trail Design, LLC

When visiting the park you may come across a sign for our Economic Impact Survey. The study, in conjunction with the Town of Canton, Montreat College, and Appalachian State University and aims to determine the economic impact that Chestnut Mountain Nature Park and Berm Park have on Haywood County and the surrounding area.

Hopefully you have already scanned the QR code to participate but if you haven't, the next time you're there it would help us out a ton if you could fill it out and help us collect data on the positive impact Chestnut Mountain and Berm Park have had on Canton. It only takes a few minutes!
